Casino comps are offered to preferred customers with a history of giving action. It is action that generates the comp from the pit boss or the sports book manager. What kind of comp a player gets depends on the type of action the player is giving. A big bet player at any table game is going to get attention and could easily be offered dinner and a show. If the total bet is big, whether you lose or win, your room could be comped. Comps are not given like they were in the old days. The modern live casino has each player register and with an electronic card keeps track of the players’ actions. This makes it easy for the casino to see who is giving action and the amount. Slots players have been using such devices for some time.
Some casinos that have fights and shows will comp good clients into these events and send them invitations to see the event on the house. This is another way to get high rollers in the house and betting. The cost of a $100 ticket can bring in a player who may lose several thousand dollars in an evening. Of course if they are that size gambler they could put some hurt on the casino too.
The casinos use the comps to keep action players happy with them, as they know that a house full of action players will be worth a certain percentage of profit to the casino. These players are the clients that the casino wants in house as often as possible. They may hit the casino a lick, but in the scheme of things, these players will give the casino a profit month in and month out. This is the reason for the comp policy to players.
Never be afraid to ask for comps. You may get turned down, but you will not know unless you ask. Some times a pit boss will bend the rules a little and at least give you breakfast or lunch. Casinos treat their clients well face to face, but the math of winning is definitely on their side. They have the edge and the little they give away is just the cost of doing business. Comps are already figured in to their profit plan.
