Craps | Big Six Big Eight
Next to the seven the easiest numbers to roll in dice, are six and eight. But the dice table has a sucker bet on the layout called the “Big Six Big Eight”. This bet pays even money. If a craps player places the six or eight they can get odds on them rolling before a seven. The payoff on the place bet is 6 to 5 for a six or eight. By the simple placement of your bet, you will get a better return if the bet wins. New casino players fall for this brazen shading of the odds all of the time.
Many casino players will routinely place the six and eight after the come out point is established and it is not one of these two numbers. They will also routinely place the opposite number from their point. Nine if the point is five and ten if the point is four. The final bet they routinely make is a come bet on the come line and take the full odds on their point. By doing all of these bets, the player has lowered the edge the house has to a minimum and also bet at the maximum odds they can get at this point in the hand. Couple these bets with a table that gets hot and rolls lots of numbers without a seven and the player will take down a significant amount of the house’s money. If they push their bets a little to take advantage of the rush, they can multiply their winning amount.
This brings up a simple question. Why do people increase their bet when losing and cut it back when winning? This dice play is so wrong on so many counts that it should be outlawed. These stupid plays are letting the house off the hook at just the right time for them and cutting down what you will win by a huge amount. Doubling up when losing is a good way to lose a lot of money. The double up should come when winning not losing. A fearful player that is winning is afraid that the winning streak will end and the losing player is desperate to get back what they have just lost. This crazy way to gamble is sure to the advantage of the house and not the player. It is extremely poor money management.
