Two oddball subjects that are a part of the gambling scene and are worthy of some comment. They are not related to one another, but they can happen at the same time. These topics are drinking and dealer tips. Some casino players are of the opinion that you should not ever drink when you are gambling in any form. Others state that it will loosen you up and let your vibes work and you may be more open to psychic messages. The truth is some people can drink like a fish and their cards or play never get drunk. Others not only lose their inhibitions, but also their money. You must come to terms with this for yourself. If you have a well-controlled mind even when drinking, you may be able to do both. The only way to know for sure is try it and see what the results are. The poker pros as a group do not seem to drink much while playing, at least that is the way it seems on TV. How they handle a cash game could be entirely different. You will have to make up your own mind as to whether the booze hurts your game. Personally I like to drink fruit juices when playing, especially grapefruit juice. Late at night maybe a cup of coffee. Every now and then a cold beer early in the afternoon to just relax and then switch to the juice. I have seen blind drunk fools win huge amounts of money and just have a wonderful time. Some people are just luckier than others and this is probably true with this fool.
Tipping the dealer or the boys is a custom that has been part of gambling for a long time. What you do and how much or little you tip is your call. I will tell you that you go against tradition if you do not tip after winning a decent pot or a great roll of the dice. If you play a lot at one place your reputation will suffer if you do not tip a little. If you do not care then you can get away with not tipping. But you might be one of the few who do not tip.
