was launched on July 1st, 1997 by the Switch Card Scheme, one
of the world's leading domestic payment systems.
Solo
is an electronic debit card, providing customers with a convenient
way to shop.
Solo
allows the customer to pay for purchases at the point of sale,
via mail, telephone or the Internet.
Solo
Card's security features include authorisation at point of sale,
and the checking for lost or stolen cards. Once the merchant
has confirmed that the customer has sufficient funds in his/her
Solo Card account, the sale can proceed. Funds are debited from
the customer's account within a day or two.
There
are currently 848,000+ UK outlets that accept Solo Card, with
more merchants signing up all the time.
